Elizabeth J. Richmond
Elizabeth J. Richmond, 84, of Anderson, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Rawlins House and Health Community in Pendleton. She was born at Redkey on April 12, 1927, the daughter of Floyd "John" and Nila Rathbun Fowler. She was married to Charles Richmond on September 21, 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1991.
Survivors include one son, Ronald (Janet) Richmond of Anderson; one daughter, Rebecca Cummins of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Jason (Cari) Richmond of Noblesville, Matt (Libby) Richmond of Markleville, Megan Richmond and her companion Dan Hart of Fishers, and Monica Cummins of Indianapolis; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob Fowler of Punta Gorda, Florida; and her aunt, Helen Wagner of Pendleton. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Bill Fowler and Fred Fowler.
Mrs. Richmond was a 1945 graduate of Indianapolis Howe High School. After high school she was contracted to draw directional maps for the US military. Elizabeth had also worked as a secretary for Leo Lippmann and Associates in Indianapolis. She owned and operated Meadows Business Service, a secretarial service in Indianapolis from 1960 to 1970.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. James Byerly officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Willis G.H. "Coach" Dunker
Willis G.H. "Coach" Dunker, 85, of Batesville, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the St. Mark Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Burial will be in the St. Mark Church Cemetery with military graveside rites. Richard L. "Dickie" Fussnecker
Richard L. "Dickie" Fussnecker, 77, of Osgood, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, in Osgood. He was born on Friday, December 1, 1933 in Aurora, the son of Russell and Marie Cole Fussnecker.
Surviving is his wife of 33 years, Cheryl A. Fussnecker of Osgood; sons, Scott (Robyn) Fussnecker of Ft. White, FL, and Troy Fussnecker of Aurora; daughter, Robbyn Fussnecker of Sunman; brother, Roger Fussnecker of Aurora; sisters, Faith (Jerry) Hinkle of Wilmington, IN, Hope (Norman) Armstrong of Aurora, Charity (Mike) Crider of Aurora; grandchildren, Daniel Gore, James Clark, Shannon and Shawn Fussnecker; and great grandchildren, Brianna Gore, Dawn and David VanCleave. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodney, and grandson Joshua VanCleave.
Dickie served his country as a member of the US Army and the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a decorated career serviceman with three years in the Army and he retired after 17 years in the Air Force.
He was a life member of the Aurora VFW, a member of the Korean War Veterans of Aurora, and the Aurora American Legion. Dickie was the commander of the Aurora VFW for several years.
Dickie worked as a Control Operator for Monsanto, retiring after 20 years of service.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 27, at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, with Pastor Dave Fogle officiating. Memorials may be given to the Margaret Mary Hospice, Aurora VFW, or PAWS. Brenda Eleanor Gebhart, 63, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 27 at Cook Funeral Home, Sunman. Burial was in the St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman. Bettie Jane Bishop
Bettie Jane Bishop, 65, of Canaan, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Water’s of Ross Manor in Dillsboro. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on August 1, 1945 the daughter of Pearl and Lillie Mae Colwell Ledford. She was married to Samuel Bishop on December 15, 1962 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1998.
Survivors include three daughters, Norma Jean (David Michael) Greive of Aurora, Julie Ann (Jeffery) Dausch of Greendale, and Malinda (John) Stegemoller of Canaan; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Eunice Ledford of Canaan, Arvil (Jerry) Ledford of Dayton, Ohio, Charles (Pauline) Ledford of Dayton, Ohio, Seldon (Delores) Ledford of Chicago, Illinois,and Hubert (Debbie) Ledford of Eaton, Ohio; and one sister, Donnetta (David) Pool of Greensburg. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister.
Mrs. Bishop was a CPA for her husband’s business, Bishop Footers and Foundations, worked as a bookkeeper for Woods Farm Equipment and attended the Bear Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 27 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial was in the Aker’s Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Cancer Society or Aker’s Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Leroy E. Edens
Leroy E. Edens, 87, of Indianapolis and formerly of Milan, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Shelbyville. He was born February 2, 1924, in Pendleton, Indiana, the son of Leroy H. and Anna Jane (Gribben) Edens. He married Ruby (Burkett) Edens in July of 1956 and she preceded him in death in June of 2001.
Leroy is survived by stepsons, Howard Glotfelty of Mansfield, TX, Jim Glot-felty of Tucson, AZ, and Jerry Glotfelty of CA; brother, Joseph Edens of Milan; sisters, Anna English of Indianapolis, Vera Crancy of Topeka, KS, Wilma Hess of Morgantown, IN and Martha Miller of Shelbyville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Barbara Wilson, Mary Luck and Virginia Fortune, and brothers Charlie and John Ray Edens.
Mr. Edens was a retired clerk with the US Postal Service in Indianapolis for 32 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Milan High School and served his country in the Army in WWII. Leroy attended the Milan Wesleyan Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #348 and the VFW Post #2999 both of Indianapolis, the Disabled American Veterans and the 40&8 #348.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Milan Wesleyan Church, Milan. Visitation will also be Friday, from 9-11 a.m. at the church. David W. Gardner
D avid W. Gardner, age 87, of Canaan, passed away Wednesday evening, June 15, 2011 at The Waters of Dillsboro. He was born on January 23, 1924 in Madison, to Rev. Charles F. Gardner Sr. and Geneva Vaughn (Gray) Gardner. David graduated from Central (Madison) High School in 1941, and attended Indiana University. He was married to Norma Shelton, and they were later divorced.
David operated Gardner's grocery store in Canaan for over 40 years, and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church. He also farmed in the area for many years. David was an accomplished piano player, and was very talented in doing crossword puzzles. He could do them with great speed, and loved winning contests.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Neida Jean Rogers, and his brother, Charles Gardner.
Surviving is a niece, Beverly Gardner Fields, of Louisville, KY, and a nephew, Charles (wife Marie) Rogers. He is also survived by a friend, Semarial Partin, of Canaan.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Interment was in Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the family for a headstone. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro, was in charge of arrangements

Ruth M. Narwold
Ruth M. Narwold, 83, of Napoleon passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Versailles on January 25, 1928, the daughter of Conrad and Emma Schenbeck Luers. She was married to Edgar Narwold on November 28, 1953 and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2003.
Survivors include one son, David (Pam) Narwold of Napoleon; grandsons, Steve (Stephanie) Narwold of Osgood and Curt (Megan) Narwold of Ankeny, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Lanie and Zach Narwold; three brothers, Wilbur Luers of Versailles, Ray Luers of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Gilbert Luers of Henderson, Nevada; and her cousin, Norma Roberts of Batesville. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Betty Toops, her parents, and her brothers Robert and Clifford Luers.
Mrs. Narwold was a 1946 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Ruth was a homemaker and a charter member of the Napoleon Fire Department Auxiliary and also was a Jackson Township delegate for the Ripley County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Jac-Cen-Del Athletic Department, or the Hospice of South Central Indiana in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

Russell E. Myers
Russell E. Myers, 88, of Evansville passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his residence. He was born near New Marion on July 29, 1922, the son of Rufus and Lillie Brown Myers. He was married to Eva Lou Knight on July 14, 1986 and she preceded him in death on April 16, 1997.
Survivors include five sons, Danny (Brenda) Myers of New Marion, Norman (Barbara) Myers of Rexville, Russell Jr. (Linda) Myers of Dillsboro, Mert (Janet) Myers and Kenneth (Barbara) Myers both of Versailles; one daughter Mary (Thomas) Allen of Edwardsburg, Michigan; three stepsons Theron (Ingrid) Knight of Galveston, Indiana, Gary (Anne) and Jerry (Jean) Knight both of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, and 17 step great-grandchildren; two sisters Nettie Grigsby of Versailles and Rosie (David) Burress of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David and Charles Myers, and his sisters Mabel Sexton, Leah Swinney, Betty Kieffer, and Mary Jo Lauber, and his stepchildren Barbara Schucofsky and James Knight.
Mr. Myers was a 1940 graduate of New Marion High School and was a retired truck driver. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served at the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 786th Tank Battalion as a truck driver in the Rhineland and in central Europe. Mr. Myers received the EAME Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 18 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial was in the New Marion Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Mary Catherine Horstman
Mary Catherine Horstman, 90, of Batesville, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Funeral services were held Monday, June 20, at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, with burial in the St. John Church Cemetery. Ralph M. Vanosdol

Ralph M. Vanosdol, 78, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born near Cross Plains on February 24, 1933, the son of Paul and Florence Hayes Vanosdol. He was married to Violet Clarkson on November 9, 1957 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Ronald (Jane) Vanosdol of Terre Haute and Keith Vanosdol of Versailles; and one grandson, Noah Alexander Vanosdol. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Vanosdol had worked for 28 years as a digger operator for the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood. He had also been employed with Uhlman’s Feed Mill in Cross Plains and Cord’s Stone Quarry at Versailles. Ralph was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at Shelby Christian Church with Bro. Earl Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Shelby Christian Church in care of the funeral home.

Ben Smith
Ben Smith, 80, of Aurora, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Ben was born on May 22, 1931, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of David and Mary (Gibson) Smith. He married Betty (Mize) Smith, on May 13, 1950, and she survives.
Ben was a former employee of Fernald, and a former owner operator of Smith Electric and later co-owner of B&P Distributors in Milan. He was a member of the Hopewell F&AM Masonic Lodge #80, and the Hogan Hill Baptist Church. He served 20 years on the Board of Directors on the Southeast Indiana Rural Telephone Company. Ben loved gardening and was an avid UK fan.
Ben is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; daughter, Pamela (Thomas) Kittle of Houston, Texas, sister, Ann Lou Wells of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and special friends Francis and Joyce Pickett of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, at Hogan Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Ferguson and Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Douglas Elmer McMurray
Douglas Elmer McMurray, 87, of Lawrenceburg and formerly of Milan, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 at Dearborn County Hospital at Lawrenceburg. Doug was born on December 9, 1923, in North Bend, Ohio, the son of Elmer and Lillian Ellen (Crouch) McMurray. He married Rose Mae (Burkhardt) McMurray in 1961 and she preceded him in death on April 16, 1998.
Doug served his country in the US Army, and was a retired employee of Union Furniture Co., in Batesville, was a member of the Milan United Methodist Church and a former member of the Aurora Eagles.
Doug is survived by sons, Douglas Oliver (Jan) McMurray of El Cajon, CA, John Douglas McMurray of Hamilton, OH; and daughter, Edna Lillian Benedict of Portage, IN; brothers, Vernon, Melvin, and Elmer, Jr., McMurray; sisters, Carolyn DeWitt, Della McAdams, Shirley Betler, Mary Triplett, and Thelma Collins, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother Stanley McMurray, and one sister Wilma Metcalf.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Craven Cemetery at Milan. Phyllis J. Pratt
Phyllis J. Pratt, 80, of Farmersburg, Indiana, and formerly of Milan, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at her resident in Farmersburg. She was born on September 17, 1930, in Milan, the daughter of Russell Clyde and Mabel (Enters) Williams. She had been married to Ray Pratt who preceded her in death in 2004.
Phyllis was a former employee of Hill Rom and a member of the Fairbanks Baptist Church. She loved her flowers, gardening, the Kentucky Derby and Nascar. She had a special friend in Tiger Girl, her cat.
Survivors include sons, Donn Pratt of Farmersburg and David Pratt of Clay City, IN; sisters, Mary Lee Brandes of Milan and Linda Kaye Peelman of Farmersburg. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Pratt in 1971.

Tom Pinkerton, 56, of Holton, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. He was born at Hamilton, Ohio on January 26, 1955, the son of Weaver and Colleen Lloyd Pinkerton.
Survivors include one son, Jason (Nicole) Pinkerton of Shelbyville; one daughter, Kristy (Jerry) Wilson of Worthington; five grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd Pinkerton of Houston, Texas, Wayne Pinkerton of Kissimmee, Florida, and Harry (Christine) Pinkerton of Rexville; four sisters, Nancy (Ronnie) Downey and Pam (Steve) McQueen both of Holton, Debra (Bernard) Geisler of Rexville, and Tina (Jim) Doolin of Franklin, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Pinkerton was a former employee of Mullins Salvage Yard in Bicknell.

Marie Craft
Marie Craft, 89, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg. Marie was born October 22, 1921, in Jackson, Kentucky, the daughter of Roscoe and Hannah (Hall) Back. She married Fred Mason Craft on March 15, 1939, and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1996.
Marie had worked at Terrace View and Elsie Dreyer Nursing Homes and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church at Negangard’s Corner. Marie loved flowers and gardening and was a very faithful Christian lady.
Survivors include sons, Alton Eugene (Georgia) Craft of Lawrenceburg, Dan Craft of Guilford and Richard (Roberta) Craft of Casa Grande, Arizona; daughter, Ruth Craft of Sunman; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by sons Merrill and Gregory Craft and daughters, Karen Craft and Janet Sue Garrett, two brothers and three sisters.

Betty Skelton
Betty Skelton, 82, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Napoleon on August 7, 1928, the daughter of Oral and Hilda Schneley Miller. She was married to Robert Hoeferkamp on July 30, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1983. She married Thomas Skelton on August 27, 1984 and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2008.
Survivors include one son, David (Lisa) Hoeferkamp of Mishawaka; four grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hoeferkamp of New Marion; sister-in-law, Ann Miller of Osgood. She was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis Hoeferkamp and her brothers, Jack Miller and Charles R. Miller.
Mrs. Skelton was a 1946 graduate of Versailles High School. She had worked for 25 years at Muscatatuck as an attendant and secretary. Betty was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 6 at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Church of Christ in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
