Grace Louise Tucker
Grace Louise Tucker, 89, of Washington, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at her residence. She was born July 13, 1922 in Decatur County the daughter of Roy A. and Mazie M. (Hughes) Hull, both deceased. She married James Lowell Tucker, Sr. February 1, 1942 at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Ronald) Johnson of Dalton, Georgia, Denise (Charles) Odell of Washington; two sons, James (Flora) Tucker, Jr. of Tallulah, Louisiana, Thomas (Cecelia) Tucker of Martinsville; one sister, Thelma (Calvin) Holcomb of Westport; one brother, Alvin (Anna Mae) Hull of Milan; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one step great granddaughter.
Mrs. Tucker was raised in the Flat Rock Community and was a former 40 year resident of Morristown and had resided in Washington since 1994. She graduated from Holton High School, was a member of the Central Christian Church at Washington and enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and cooking.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Tuesday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church in Ripley County with Rev. James Payton officiating. Burial will be in the Union Flat Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Union Flat Rock Cemetery through the funeral home.

Hazel L. (Puente) Steinfort
Hazel I. (Puente) Steinfort, devoted wife of the late Omer Steinfort, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 96 years of age. She was the mother of William (Sandy) Steinfort, Robert (Joyce) Steinfort, Marcella (Cullen) Kalkbrenner, David (Linda) Steinfort and the late Lawrence (Claudia) Steinfort.
Hazel was the sister of Catherine Eiklor, Adeline Lewis and the late Dorothy Puente, Luella Schwipps and Edward Puente. She had 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Hazel was formerly of New Haven.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23, at John C. Brater Funeral Home, Harrison, Ohio. Memorials may be given to the St. John the Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or charity of donor’s choice. Brater Funeral Home, Harrison, OH, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen S. Lauber
Helen S. Lauber, 83, of Sunman, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011. Funeral services were held Monday, July 25 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Hubbell’s Corner with burial in the Evangelical Union Cemetery, Hubbell’s Corner. Richard F. Wagner
Richard F. Wagner, 83, of Napoleon, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at his home. He was born near Napoleon on October 20, 1927 the son of William and Catherine Brunner Wagner. He was married to Dolores Gehl at St. Maurice Catholic Church on August 12, 1950 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Theresa (Paul) Rork of Fairland; seven sons Steve (Ann) Wagner, Mike (Cathy) Wagner, Joe (Janet) Wagner and Mark (Jean) Wagner all of Napoleon, John (Linda) Wagner of Osgood, Alan Wagner and his fiancé Silky Caldwell of Statesville, NC and Brian (Stacey) Wagner of Greensburg; 26 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and one brother, William (Delores) Wagner of Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Iona Wagner, Wilma Peetz and Burdella Brancamp and his brothers Paul, Maurice, Cletus and Donald Wagner.
Mr. Wagner was a 1946 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon and was also a charter member of the Keene-Henneke VFW Post at Napoleon. He was a farmer and a former employee of the Union Furniture Company in Batesville, the Indiana State Highway Department and Gulf Plastics in Greensburg.
He was an Army veteran where he served with the 21st Infantry from May of 1946 to May of 1947, seven months of which was served in occupied Japan.
Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, July 25 at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with Father Rob Hankee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Keene-Henneke VFW Post and the Osgood American Legion.
Memorials may be given to the St. Maurice Building Fund or the Hospice of the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in care of Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home.

Jeffery James Venable
Jeffery James Venable, age 54, of Shelbyville, formerly of Batesville, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 24, 1957 son of James and Francis Dean Venable, both deceased. He married Joan Louise Kemker November 7, 1975 and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2010.
Survivors include daughter, Shannon (Chris) Pope of Waldron; grandchildren, Kayla Joan Pope and Skyler Peetz both of Waldron.
Jeff was an employee of Hill Rom in Batesville, for 25 years and also an employee of Delta Faucet of Greensburg. He loved to write music and also enjoyed singing. Jeff also restored and showed cars. He had attended Solid Rock Bible Fellowship Church of Napoleon.
Services will be held all in one day at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood, today, Tuesday, July 19, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery, Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Solid Rock Church in care of the funeral home. Bernard Charles "Chuck" Hartley, 28, of Cross Plains, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Ruby Jane Gullion
Ruby Jane Gullion, 78, of Holton, formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away Monday, July 18, 2011, in Columbus. She was born Sunday, June 25, 1933 in Falmouth, Kentucky, the daughter of Elmer Johnson and Virgie Russell Lynn.
Ruby was a member of North Vernon Church of Christ, loved word search puzzles, bingo and "I Love Lucy". She loved Lawrenceburg and was a great person who always helped others and thought of others first. She used to enjoy going on over the road trips with her husband. Time spent with her family was her greatest joy.
Surviving are sons, Charles (Kimberly Barrett) Gullion, Jr. of Holton, Kenneth (Brenda) Gullion of Greendale; daughters, Tammy (Alvin) Barrett of Rising Sun, Beverly Harrell of Lawrenceburg, Vickie (Zeke) Bishop of Versailles; sisters, Anna Lou Mitchell of Harrison, OH, Debbie (Jim) Brown of Milan, Penny (Fred) Vinup of Milan; 14 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles K. Gullion, Sr.
Friends will be received 12-2 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora. Services will be held at the funeral home, Thursday, at 2 p.m. immediately following visitation with James Pedigo officiating.

Meta Thieman
Meta Thieman, 95, of Cross Plains, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Ripley Crossing Health Center in Milan. She was born in Cross Plains on March 24, 1916, the daughter of John and Alma Steingruber Schwanholt. She was married to Howard Thieman on November 21, 1936 and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1997.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (James) Pennington of Canaan, Genevieve (Louis) DeBurger of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Debbie (Ron) Raper, Karen DeBurger, Chris (Melissa) Lochard, Laura Freeman, Becky (Benny) Mohr, and Andrew Lochard; great grandchildren, Brandi and Vanessa Hite, Joseph and Lakota Mohr; one brother, Victor Schwanholt; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Thieman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Edward and Walter.
Mrs. Thieman was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean and taught Sunday school for 26 years, a member of the Martha’s Circle, Olean, Willing Workers Homemakers Club and a Bible School teacher.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Cemetery in Olean. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Friendship Fire Department or the cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Evelyn Comer
Evelyn Comer, 89, of the Hopewell community, near Holton passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born in the Proving Ground near Holton on July 23, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Zora Richardson Dudley. She was married to Henry Comer on May 18, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2011.
Other survivors include one son, Donald (Gloria) Comer of Holton; one daughter, Sharon (Bob) Allen of Charlestown; grandchildren, Kevin (Sherri) Comer, Michele (Danny) Speer, and Andy (Sara) Comer all of the Hopewell community, Chris Allen of Wayne City, Illinois and Daniel (Kelsey) Allen of Charlestown; eight great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and five step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Thomas A. Comer, and her daughter Connie Jane Comer.
Mrs. Comer was a 1939 graduate of Holton High School. Mrs. Comer was a bookkeeper for REMC and her family farm, Evelyn was also a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, Hopewell Clover Bees 4H Leader, and very active in the Indiana Pork Providers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building.

Denise J. Ragland
Denise J. Ragland, 58, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born Thursday, January 1, 1953 in Rochester, Indiana, the daughter of the late Jay C. Schwinn and the late Wanda Knuckles Schwinn.
Denise previously worked as a cashier for Jay C Food Store in Milan. She loved Stephen King novels and playing computer games.
Surviving are sons, James Ragland of Albuquerque, NM, Jason Ragland of Ft. Rucker, AL; daughter, Michelle Ragland of Milan; brothers, Darel Schwinn of Dallas, TX, Doug Schwinn of Grand Junction, CO, and Dewey Schwinn of Modesto, CA; grandchildren, Jason Jr., and Justin Ragland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 10, at the First Baptist Church of Milan with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial was in the Craven Cemetery, Milan. Memorials may be given to the family. Peggy Louise Gilland
Peggy Louise Imel Gilland, age 64, of Osgood, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at her home. She was born April 12, 1946, to the parents of Perry Herbert and Rosamae Schuck Imel. She married George Anthony Gilland August 28, 1965 and he resides at home.
Survivors include husband, George Anthony Gilland of Osgood; sons, Bryan Anthony Gilland of Greensburg, Charles James Anthony Gilland of Osgood; daughter, Danielle Elswick of Newport, KY; brothers, Wm. Imel of Osgood, Robert and John Imel both of Greensburg; sister, Patsy Cowins of Greensburg; and seven grandchildren.
Peggy was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Lee Shaver; three brothers, Charles Perry, Richard Lee and Dynnis Imel; also, two sisters, Telly Mae Imel and Mary Jane Simmons.
Peggy had worked for Delta Faucet of Greensburg, IN retiring in 1990. She had been a nail tech for Cindy Schmidt who owns the Unique Beauty Salon near Greensburg. She had attended the Assembly of God Church in Greensburg and in Madison. In the more recent years, she had attended the Osgood First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 9, at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home. Harold Alton Thornton, 84, of Madison, formerly of Pleasant, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. William "Bill" Berry
William "Bill" Berry, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Cumberland, Kentucky on April 2, 1941, the son of Otis and Gladys Sumpter Berry. He was married to Carol Wood in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 7, 1968.
Survivors include his wife Carol; two daughters, Robin Ann (Bud) Prather of Holton, and SaraDee (Joe) Cole of Versailles; five grandchildren, Tyler and Justin Cole, Lance, Jessie, and Samuel Prather; two brothers, Ronald "Ron" Berry of Madison and Dale Berry of Holton; and one sister, Sue Combs of Florida. He was preceded in death by his one daughter; Linda Jane; two brothers, David and Danny Berry; and his parents.
Mr. Berry was a self-employed owner/operator truck driver, and had worked at Wood Farm Supply in Versailles.
Bill served his county in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division out of Ft. Bragg, Virginia for 12 years, including two tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Cedars of Lebanon Church in Dillsboro. He was a member of the Versailles American Legion, Leora Weare Post #173.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m. at the Cedars of Lebanon in Dillsboro with Pastor Charlie Hill officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Methodist cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Good News Club in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

Naomi Roberta Mahoney
Former bookstore owner, Naomi Roberta Mahoney, 88, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 3, 1922 at Batesville, the daughter of John Rufus and Alma Pearl Ruble Rice. She married Loyd George Mahoney on June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 4, 1971.
Survivors include close friends Lester and Joann Peters of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son James Alan Mahoney- January 28, 2005, and sisters Mariam Lucille Rice Lamkin.
Naomi was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at Cummins Engine Company for six years. At one time, she and her son Jim owned and operated Cummins Book Store in Columbus. Naomi was of the Christian faith.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, IN, with visitation held one hour prior to service. Jesse H. Westmeyer Jr.
Jesse H. Westmeyer, Jr., 65, of Versailles, died Thursday, June 30, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born November 7, 1945, in Batesville, the son of Jesse H. and Leona J. Curry Westmeyer.
A lifelong resident of Versailles, Westmeyer graduated from Versailles High School in 1963 and received a degree in business from Miller-Draugn Business College in Cincinnati. He worked for Cummins Engine before enlisting in the United State Marine Corps in September 1965.
As a corporal in the Marine Corps, Westmeyer served in Vietnam an received honorable discharge in September of 1967.
After service in the Marine Corps, he became a member of the Indiana State Police in November 1967 and served for 33 years, most of those years at the Versailles Post. When he retired in January 2000, Westmeyer was employed by Hardy Insurance and later by Main Source Insurance.
During his 54 years as a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church, Westmeyer served in several capacities. He was chairman of the building committee when the Fellowship Hall was built and presently served as a member of the Tyson United Methodist Board of Trustees.
Westmeyer was a longtime member of the Versailles American Legion Post 173, having served as commander in 2009 and recently being elected to serve as commander for the coming year.
He belonged to the State Police Alliance and was also a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge #7 for which he was a Worshipful Past Master and a member of Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite.
Westmeyer married Jane Ellen Freudenstein on August 2, 1969, and she survives. Other survivors are a son Ed (Shannon) Westmeyer of Troy, Ohio; two daughters: Natalie (Jerry) Gilpin of Versailles and Susan Westmeyer of Versailles; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his mother Joe Westmeyer of Versailles; a brother David (Tulin) Westmeyer of Louisville, Kentucky; a brother-in-law Roger (Cathy) Freudenstein of Spring Hills, Florida, a sister-in-law Ann Westmeyer of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse H. Westmeyer, Sr. and his border, Stephen Westmeyer.
A celebration of Westmeyer’s life will be held at Tyson United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, with the Rev. John Scudder and the Rev. James Byerly officiating.
Visitation will be at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles from 4:00 till 8:00 on Tuesday, July 5, with Masonic services scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
