South Ripley Raiders soccer team earns 1-0 win over visiting Shawe Hilltoppers

Gary Franklin, Sports Editor

On Wednesday evening, August 24, under a brightly lit skywith little to no breeze and disgusting heat, the Varsity South Ripley Raider boys soccer team managed to play the visiting Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers and claim the 1-0 shutout victory.
Though battling on the Hilltoppers end of the field much of the contest, the Raiders could only manage one score for goal.
That goal came off a hard working Levi Yocum with 27:40 remaining in the first half, and an assist by Tyler Rolf.
With so much time remaining in the game, the question had now become, "Could the Raiders make a one point edge stand up?"
Much hard play was left on the field by both teams players through the remaining half and the entire last half of the game, but in spite of near misses, the Raiders held their ground for the win.
Raiders and Hilltoppers alike, enjoyed solid support from a large fan base gathered on the sidelines for the match.
