Lady Raiders go down, but not without a fight to the bitter end

The South Ripley Lady Raider Soccer Team played intently in their last stand for the 2011 season in the IHSAA Girls Soccer Sectional #44, hosted by Lawrenceburg HS. They debuted in the sectional action as the second game of the night on Tuesday night, October 2, falling out of contention only after extended play and a second round of shoot outs to determine a winner.
The Lady Raiders battled the Union County Ladty Patriots, beginning under the lights at 7:30 p.m. on a dew slickened field.
Both teams battled to a 0-0 tie after a full regulation game, forcing two more periods of seven minutes each. Neither team mastered a score in those two periods, forcing a five person per team shoot out.
UC shot first, SR followed through the 10 shooters.
UC Hannah Swafford & SR Kelsey Cumberworth miss. UC Merida Ferrario & SR Emily Cumberworth miss. UC Holly Snyder & SR Kyanna Clippert both hit. UC Molly Mescher missed, but SR Emily Forwalt hits to put SR up 2-1. However, UC Molly Fields hits to tie at two & SR Amanda Pavey misses leaving a tie at 2-2.
Sudden death shoot out as second set of players take a turn. UC Emily Bentz & SR Bridgitte Taylor miss. UC Leah Gabbard connects, leaving SR's Halie Brison in need of a hit to keep the game alive. Not her fortune today as it goes wide.
UC wins 3-2.
The South Ripley Lady Raiders represented their team, SRHS and the South Ripley Community most positively while putting together the best girls soccer season to date.
Congratulations to players and coaching staff as well as parents for positive game spirit and attitudes throughout!
