SR Lady Raiders claim round one win of the 2011-12 battles with rival JCD Eagles

Gary Franklin, Sports Editor

The healthy sports rivalry between the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles and the neighboring South Ripley Raiders is at the least, alive and well.
The 2011-12 boys basketball season opened for the two teams on Tuesday evening, November 22, at JCDHS in the annual "Turkey Shootout".
Fans of high school roundball action on the hardwood got a solid return of exciting basketball entertainment for their buck in this match up, with the visiting Raiders pulling off a non-conference game victory by a final count of 62-58. The four point edge for the Raiders was only acquired as the result of a fourth quarter buzzer beater lay up scored by Raider senior, Brandon Sizemore.
Opportunities for an Eagle victory availed itself multiple times from the charity stripe and point blank bunnies gone awry under the basket throughout the final 30 seconds of the regulation fourth period game action.
Jac-Cen-Del senior Jayson Purdy delivered 16 points toward the Eagle total of 58.
