Chad Edward Zapfe
Chad Edward Zapfe, 36, of the Hopewell community passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at his home. He was born in Indianapolis on September 10, 1975, the son of Donald and Mona LaBolt Zapfe.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Donald and Angie Zapfe of the Hopewell community; his mother, Mona LaBolt, sister, Jennifer Zapfe, maternal grandmother, Mrs. Opal LaBolt, all of the Hopewell community; uncles, Raymond (Jesse) Zapfe of Milhousen, Bernard (Judy) Zapfe of Westport and James Zapfe of Moss Point, Mississippi; aunts, Mary Ann (Richard) Wamsley of Greensburg and Melinda (John) Braley of Versailles; and also his cocker spaniel Toby. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edward and Frances Zapfe and his maternal grandfather, Warren LaBolt.
Mr. Zapfe was a 1994 graduate of South Ripley High School and was a former employee of Ohio Rod in Versailles. He also had worked in construction and was a member of the Carpenters Union. Chad enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Brandon Lee Crookham, 12, of Haskell, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 23, at Ashby Funeral Home with burial in the Mt. Harmony Cemetery.

Robert E. McNew
Robert E. McNew, 87, of the Hopewell community near Holton passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at his home. He was born at Osgood on December 17, 1923, the son of Wilbur and Lena Heaton McNew. He was married to Zuella Hull on April 17, 1949 and she survives.


Other survivors include one son Marvin (Sue) McNew of Holton; three daughters Marlene (Steve) Hedrick of Batesville, Kathy Jones of Lawrenceburg, and Gail Dicus of Aurora; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Crystal Dicus, his brother Keith McNew, and his sisters Wanda Jackson, Betty Gilley, Ruth Croan, and Nancy Bodenberg.
Mr. McNew was a 1941 graduate of Holton High School and was a 75 year member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a farmer his entire life and was a rural mail carrier for the Holton Post Office for 33 years.
Bob founded and owned the Farm Chemical Company in Holton and was a former Ripley County Conservation Farmer of the Year.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Gaylin Thomas Siekerman
Gaylen Thomas Siekerman, 87, of Aurora (Manchester), passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Military services will be provided by the Moores Hill American Legion Post #209. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Cincinnati. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Moores Hill Fire/Rescue. Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
