Just a few days before the Ripley County 4-H Fair
has its official opening, harness racing will
take place on the renovated original track at
the grandstand. July 14 at 11 a.m. will be the
first race, with another event planned for September
6 also at 11:00 a.m. The last time harness racing
took place in Osgood was in 1955, according to
                                one historian.

Reviving the sport from the past has created a
flurry of excitement at the Ripley County Fairgrounds
Park in Osgood. There has been a lot of movement
with the original track, which is situated on
the outskirts of the race track where motor vehicles
now run, being completely restored. This was made
possible through a $20,665.24 grant from the Indiana
                                Standardbred Association, Greenfield.

The Land vs. Richmond drainage board hearing was
held at the regular commissioners' meeting on
Monday, June 14. The drainage issue was first
presented to the commissioners at the November
                                2009 meeting.

According to Donna Land of Milan, property owned
by her and her mother, Margaret, had standing
water issues due to an obstructed ditch on land
owned by Mike and Cindy Richmond. According to
Land, this was caused by the construction of a
building on the Richmond property that left a
mound of dirt near a fence on the Land property
resulting in the additional water runoff.

A group from Ripley County are feeding the hungry
in more ways than one, according to Jim Bode who
                              founded Isaiah 58:7 Ministries.

The group goes to the inner city of Cincinnati to
serve meals and witness to those in need in a variety
                              of ways.

Bode explained that he felt the call of God on him
to begin this ministry for quite some time. He said
he would attend events such as Bengals and Reds
games and look out and see needy people. He felt
God was telling him to do something - to minister
to them. He said in December of last year after
a church service on a Sunday night, he yielded to
the call, and the first trip to Cincinnati was launched
                              December 18, 2009.

jurors have heard a little of both sides concerning
charges against Robert Baston, 41, of Milan.

Baston has been charged with a Class A Felony,
Child Molesting, which means he is alleged to
have had sexual intercourse or deviate sexual
conduct with a child under the age of 14.

Plans for a new courthouse annex continue according
to Julie Berry, Midwestern Engineering, who presented
possible granting opportunities as well as a request
for a space study at the regular commissioners meeting
held on Friday, May 28. According to Berry, the
space study will be required in order to be considered
for future grants for the annex.

regarding the annex. He requested that a title search
be completed to ensure there are no environmental
liens or restrictions on the property.
